Heather Mahurin Receives IMLA’s Amicus Service Award

Heather Mahurin-5899-EditHeather Mahurin, Legal Counsel for the Texas Municipal League, has been honored with the International Municipal Lawyers Association’s Amicus Service Award for an amicus brief written on behalf of TML, TCAA, and IMLA in Texas v. Cooper.  The Amicus Service Award is presented to those lawyers who are actively involved in legal advocacy for, and on behalf of, local governments and IMLA.

State v. Cooper involves an individual found guilty in the Plano Municipal Court of a violation of the International Property Maintenance Code (IPMC) under a separate violation provision adopted by the city council.  The brief argued that the separate offense provision adopted by the city council, which the defendant was prosecuted under, could be read in harmony with the offense provision provided within the IPMC.  The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals granted the City of Plano’s Petition for Discretionary Review on May 8, 2013.

Congratulations Heather!
